Course Overview
Located in the heart of Lancashire, and some 4 miles from Wigan, Hindley Hall Golf Club is a classic parkland course founded in 1905 initially as a 9-hole course.
It was expanded to a 18-hole course in 1910, and today we have a difficult course to master by virtue of narrow fairways and smaller than average greens. In all, a fair test of golfing ability.
The club is embarking on a significant number of improvements in the future, including redeveloping part of the course. This is the first major work proposed for several decades and opens up exciting possibilities for the club and its members.
The management take great pride in the presentation of the course and have invested heavily in this aspect of operations.
The club already had a flyover series online to showcase the golf club, but in discussion with SkyLine Golf we jointly identified areas where this could be significantly enhanced.
The club wanted a full hole by hole commentary, as well as professional on-screen graphics to bring each hole to life and give tips and hints to the average handicap golfer. The rationale being that if the golfer is enjoying their experience, they are more likely to renew membership in future.
The Brief/Challenge
SkyLine Golf Approach
We consulted closely with club management over several weeks to understand the brief.
This also included meeting with the club pro to map out each hole, stroke by stroke, in order to provide a guided tour aimed principally at the average golfer, who after all, make up the majority of a club’s membership.
This then informed content of the commentary script which was written and recorded by SkyLine Golf.
SkyLine Golf also produced an introductory video to showcase the course and explain why the flyover series was produced.
The flyover series has been popular with members and visitors attracting thousands of views across the social media landscape, including Youtube and Facebook.
The package also features heavily on the club’s main website and is the ‘hero’ banner. SkyLine’s photographs are also used by the club to promote the club to the outside world. A recent example was use in a vacancy ad to attract a new head greenkeeper.
SkyLine will continue to work in partnership with the club to enhance the sponsorship profile, as well as document course improvements and progress in the years ahead.
